What are my beliefs? What rules do I live by? The answers are manifold - work, beauty, truth, and love - and I aspire to live by these principles.

However, in my daily life, I navigate by the light of an additional set of laws. I prefer to call them practical guidelines or rules of thumb. Though humble in their grandness, these rules ensure the smooth functioning of life's wheels.

My parents enrolled me in excellent schools, but the most significant contribution they made to my education was by bringing up seven children. As the eldest, I had the privilege of learning from my siblings - they were my greatest teachers.

I learned the value of responsibility at an early age. In our family, being idle was not tolerated. I understood that being productive and contributing to the well-being of the family was essential. If I was too lazy or too delicate to do something, someone else would quickly teach me the importance of doing it myself.

Similarly, I learned the futility of anger. It only hurts oneself, and in our home, sulking was not a viable option. It did not contribute to the harmony of the family or to the enjoyment of life. Among seven children, sulking only isolated me from the fun. It might reduce the number playing a game momentarily, but the game would continue without me. Therefore, it was better to channel my energy positively and engage with my family, playing music or joining in other activities. It was also essential to keep my temper in check and stay engaged in the game rather than throwing a tantrum and disrupting the harmony of the family.

These lessons from my childhood have shaped my understanding of life and have enabled me to navigate through life's challenges with resilience and optimism. I believe that by following these principles and guidelines, I can create a fulfilling and harmonious life for myself and others around me.
